Perez Pitches No Hitter As Lions Clinch Third WCC Series

LOS ANGELES– The Loyola Marymount University softball team (28-14) swept the Pacific Tigers in a double header on Saturday, with a no hitter in game 1 winning, 4-0, followed by another victory in game 2, 4-2.
 
The Lions got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first inning of game 1, as Morgan DeBord would hit an RBI single to center field, bringing in Megan Dedrick for the first run of the game.
 
The Lions were able to hold the Tigers to no hits and no run the entire game, headed into the bottom of the fourth with the lead.
 
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Lions were able to seal the deal with three runs, as Taylor Keinath hit an RBI sacrifice fly out to allow Alyssa Daniell to score for the Lions.
 
In the same inning, Megan Dedrick nailed an RBI single through the right side to score Peyton Angulo, which was then followed by an Andrea Gonzalez scored run due to an error by the pitcher.
 
The Lions would shut the Tigers out the remaining of the innings, to win game 1 of the three-game series.
 
The Lions finished the game with four total hits to the Tigers, zero hits. Morgan DeBord finished 2 for 3 at the plate, while producing an RBI. Megan Dedrick went 1 for 3 at the plate, scoring one run for the Lions while also compiling an RBI.  
 
Jenna Perez moves to 13-6 on the season, pitching 7.0 innings while allowing zero hits, zero runs for her first official no hitter performance of the season, producing 14 strikeouts.
 
In Game 2 was no different the Lions, as they were able to get on the board first in the bottom of the second inning, with a solo homerun from standout freshman, Jasmine Sofowora.
 
With the score 1-0 headed into the bottom of the third, Morgan DeBord bombed an RBI double down the right field line, allowing Dedrick to score the second run for the Lions.
 
The Tigers did respond by scoring off an RBI single in the top of the fourth inning, followed by RBI sacrifice to tie the game, 2-2.
 
However, the Lions were determined the clinch the series, as Alyssa Daniell would hit a game-leading RBI double to right center field, followed by an RBI sacrifice fly out by Peyton Angulo to score Daniell.
 
The Lions were able to hold the Tigers off in the top of the 7th inning to clinch the series, improving to 30-14 on the season and 7-1 in the West Coast Conference.

The Lions finished the game at the plate with five total hits, compared to the Tigers, six hits. Jasmine Sofowora went 1 for 2 at the plate, hitting her fourth home run on the season while also scoring one run. Sydney Poole went 2 for 3 at the plate, while Morgan DeBord went 1 for 3, while producing an RBI.

Jenna Perez moves to 13-6 after getting the save for the Lions, as she pitched 2.0 innings allowing no hits, no runs. Savannah Hooks got the start for the Lions, pitching 5.0 innings while allowing six hits and two runs.

Game 2 marked the third WCC series win for the Lions in the 2022 season, as they look to sweep the Tigers in Game 3 tomorrow at Smith Field, with the  first pitch is set for 10:00 a.m. PST.
