LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University softball team (28-13) took a rough, 4-2 loss to the Cal State Fullerton Titans, in a non-conference match up on Tuesday night.
The Lions fell behind in the top of the first inning, when the Titans scored the first run of the game off a solo home run. They would then return in the top of the second inning to hit another solo run to make the lead, 2-0.
The Lions would respond in the bottom of the second inning, as
Jasmine Sofowora cracked an RBI double through right center field, allowing
Georgia Blair to score, decreasing the lead, 2-1.
After holding the Titans to just two runs in the first three innings,
Morgan DeBord bombed an RBI triple down right field line to even the score for the Lions in the bottom of the third inning.
With the game tied heading into the top of the fifth inning, the Titans would break away as they scored two runs in the same inning.
The Lions worked very hard to come back, getting runners on base and in scoring position but unable to capitalize on their opportunities.
The Lions finished the game with six total hits to the Titans, ten hits.
Morgan DeBord went 2 for 3 at the plate, finishing with an RBI.
Georgia Blair went 1 for 1 at the plate, scoring one run for the Lions.
Jasmine Sofowora went 1 for 3 at the plate, compiling the other RBI for LMU.
Paulina Johnson moves to 5-3 on the season, pitching for 2.2 inning while allowing four hits and two runs.
Jessica Hubbard got the start for LMU as she pitched 1.2 innings, allowing four hits and two runs as well.
Savannah Hooks also made and appearance in the game, pitching 1.2 innings while allowing one hit and no runs.
Jenna Perez closed the game out for the Lions, pitching 1.0 innings giving up no hits and no runs.
The Lions will continue their home stand at Smith Field as they will host the Pacific Tigers in a three-game series from Apr. 23-24, as they look to continue their win streak in the WCC. The first game is set to start at 12:00 p.m. PST, followed by game 2 at 2:00 p.m. PST.
