STOCKTON, Calif. – The Golden Coast Conference water polo game between #17 LMU and #16 Pacific came down to the final seconds before the Tigers held on for a one-goal win, 12-11.

The Lions found themselves in an early 3-0 deficit, before Marialena Seletopoulou put LMU on the board with a goal with 2:47 on the clock. The Tigers built their lead back up to three, but the Lions answered with two goals in the final minute of the first quarter as both Alexandra Akritidou and Kelsey Snelgar found the back of the cage.

Ruth Arino Ruiz opened the game with a game-tying goal less than a minute into the period. Pacific took the lead right back on their next possession, but it was Arino Ruiz who tied the score with 5:27 remaining until halftime. The home team scored the next two, before Arino Ruiz finished her second period hat trick with a converted penalty shot goal with 36 seconds on the clock. Pacific took a 7-6 lead into halftime.

The Tigers opened the second half with a goal, but Yanah Gerber and Mollie Williams each scored less than a minute apart to tie the game at 8-all with 6:04 to play in the period. Pacific pulled in front 9-8, but LMU claimed the next three goals to take their first lead of the game. Williams tied the score at 9-all, then Arino Ruiz scored the next two to push LMU ahead 11-9 with 2:56 to play in the third. The Tigers added two late goals in the final 47 seconds to setup an 11-11 tie entering the fourth quarter.
