Box Score LAS VEGAS – Loyola Marymount women's basketball team lost a tough match to the No. 4 seeded Portland Pilots, 44-69 in the Quarterfinals of the WCC Tournament.
The Lions started off strong start forcing six turnovers, while holding the Pilots to just 5-12 shooting from the field.
Jasmines Jones and
Alexis Mark both scored six a piece in the first quarter to boost the Lions offense making the score, 14-14, at the end of the quarter.
The Lions could not get the ball in the basket in the second quarter, as the Pilots outscored them, 19-6, in the second quarter. LMU went 1-12 from the filed but were able to get to the line.
The Lions' defense still thrived in the first half, forcing 15 total turnovers in the half. Mark scored 10 points and grabbed six rebounds in the half.
Lions headed into the third quarter with the score, 20-33, as this reminded them of the game in Portland when they were down 12 but able to bounce back.
Ariel Johnson helped the Lions on offense, going 3-5 from the field, scoring six points.
Khari Clark started heating up in the second half, as she put up four points to help LMU.
However, the Pilots were shooting consistently as she went 50% from the field in the third quarter, putting up 21 points to the Lions, 10 points.
LMU was not able to bounce back in the game but showed great effort, as they headed into the fourth quarter down, 30-54. They were held to just 14 points in the quarter, which wasn't enough to make a run on the Pilots.
Alexis Mark finished the game with a double-double scoring 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 2 assists. Johnson finished with 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists, while Jones finished the game with 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists.
The Lions finish their 2021-22 season with an overall record of 11-19, which two of those wins came from the conference tournament.
