FULLERTON, Calif. – The Loyola Marymount University softball team (11-10) closed out the Judi Garman Classic with an upset win over the 23
rd-ranked Arizona State Sun Devils. The Lions blanked ASU, 4-0, in the final game of the day, after falling to Fresno State, 6-1, to open the day.

In Saturday's first game, Fresno State jumped ahead 4-0 with home runs in the second and fifth and an RBI double in the fourth.
LMU's lone run came in the top of the sixth with a solo shot off the bat of
Alyssa Daniell.

The Bulldogs added a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to close out the scoring.
Â
All three Lions to enter the circle gave up two runs apiece.

LMU came back for the night cap with
Jenna Perez pitching against #23 Arizona State. The left-hander put together a career-performance striking out a personal-high 14 batters in her third complete game win. Perez allowed only two hits over the seven innings of work to even her record at 3-3.

Megan Dedrick led off the top of the third inning at second base thanks to an error from the ASU left fielder. After a bunt advanced her to third,
Andrea Gonzalez knocked a one-out single to right field to score the game's first run.

In similar fashion, Dedrick opened the fifth inning by reaching on an error.
Taylor Keinath singled and advanced on the throw to put two runners in scoring position with only one out. Gonzalez came up clutch again, knocking a 2-RBI single to center field to increase LMU's lead to 3-0. Gonzalez recorded her first three hit and three RBI games of the season.
For added insurance, Dedrick knocked a leadoff home run over the left field run to push LMU ahead 4-0.

Perez closed out the game with her final two strikeouts coming in the bottom of the seventh to help the Lions defeat a ranked opponent for the first time this season.

The next 13 games will be played in Los Angeles, including 12 at Smith Field on LMU's campus. The Lions open the week hosting Utah for a doubleheader on Tuesday and Princeton for a double-header on Wednesday.Â
