FULLERTON – The Loyola Marymount University softball team (10-8) took a close loss to the Texas A&M Aggies, 2-4, in day two of the Judi Garman Classic.
The Lions had a slow first inning, as they left two on base with a fly out to centerfield, while the Aggies were able to score first in the bottom of the first inning with a 2 RBI homerun.
In the top of the second inning with the score, 2-0, the Lions were able to make an early come back as
Peyton Angulo hit an RBI single to up the middle, allowing
Madalie Gomez to score.
In the same inning,
Sydney Poole produced a ground out RBI, as pinch runner
Kat Hummer scored to tie the game, 2-2.
The game would remain tied for three innings, as the Lions and the Aggies both displayed great defense on both.
In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Aggies hit a solo homerun to take the lead and was able to hold the Lions no runs in the top of the sixth inning.
The Aggies would score another run in the bottom of the sixth inning to close out the Lions.
The Lions overall finished with four total hits compared to the Aggies, eight hits.
Georgia Blair went 1-2 from the plate and
Peyton Angulo finished 1-1 with an RBI.
Savanna Hooks
is now 2-4, as she pitched 5.1 innings, allowing six hits and two runs, while recording four strikeouts.
Jenna Perez pitched 0.2 innings, allowing two hits and two runs, but piled up four strikeouts.
The Lions will continue to compete in the Judi Garman tournament as they will face the Fresno State Bulldogs and #22 Arizona State Sun Devils, tomorrow, Mar. 5, 9:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. PST.
