Box Score LOS ANGELES– The Loyola Marymount University softball team (22-12) defeated the Fresno State Bulldogs in a non-conference rematch, 3-0, as the Lions prepare to make a huge run in the West Coast Conference.
The Lions were in a tight match with the Bulldogs on Wednesday evening, while pitching a no hitter through the first four innings of the game.
The first hit of the game came from
Sydney Poole in the first inning, first at bat, with a single to second base as she beat out the throw.
In the top of the second inning,
Alyssa Daniell would hit a sacrifice bunt to bring in
Kat Hummer, the fierce pinch runner the Lions have been utilizing all season.
The Lions continued their no hitter defensive performance leading into the bottom of the fourth when the Bulldogs would get a hit on the board with a double to left field.
Besides the third inning, the Lions had opportunities to score in every inning, leaving one to two runners left on base.
With
Jenna Perez in the circle, the Lions defense did not budge an inch, barely allowing the Bulldogs to get in rhythm.
The Lions exploded in the top of the seventh inning, as
Andrea Gonzalez hit a ground out to third base, bringing in Daniell for the Lions second run. The next at bat,
Morgan DeBord hit a fly out to centerfield, allowing Poole to score as the Lions took the lead, 3-0.
They would hold the Bulldogs off in the bottom of the seventh, retiring the side.
The Lions finished the game with eight total hits to the Bulldogs, two hits.
Sydney Poole went 3-4, scoring the Lions third run of the game.
Morgan DeBord went 1-2 from the plate, collecting an RBI.
Alyssa Daniell went 1-2 at the plate also, batting in an RBI as well.
Jenna Perez moves to 11-5, pitching 7.0 innings while allowing two hits and no runs, while producing seven strikeouts.
The Lions will begin West Coast Conference play, traveling to Provo, Utah next Friday, Apr. 8 for a three-game series with the BYU Cougars. The first game of the series will be at 4:00 p.m. PST, with the second game to follow at 6:00 p.m. PST
