RIVERSIDE, CA – The Loyola Marymount University Lions (7-16-1, 4-2 WCC) fell in their midweek matchup in Riverside against the Highlanders 3-1 on Tuesday night.
The Lions used a combination of four pitchers Tuesday night with
Alex Burge picking up the start. Burge put together 3.2 innings worth of work with five strikeouts while allowing three runs to the Highlanders.
Jimmy Galicia,
Merrick Baldo, and
Owen Hackman all saw time on the mound for the Lions. The combination only allowed two hits and struck out four.
LMU put runners in scoring position in the top of the third with walks by
Dylan Dennis and
Ben Grunberg and a sacrifice bunt by
Cole Roberts but a pair of strikeouts ended the Lions threat.
The Highlanders got on the board first in the bottom of the fourth and plated their only three runs of the game.
The Lions had another opportunity to score in the top of the fifth with a runner in scoring position but a strikeout ended the frame.
LMU broke through in the top of the seventh when
Grant Weiss sent the second pitch he saw clear over the left field wall for the Lions only run of the game.
The Lions return to Page Stadium and resume West Coast Conference play when they welcome the Portland Pilots for three games. First pitch between the Lions and Pilots is set for 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
