Lions Loaded With Talent Aim To Overcome Deficits

LOS ANGELES- The Loyola Marymount University softball team (21-12) will host the final of nine game stretch at Smith Field against the Cal Baptist Lancers on Tuesday, Mar. 22. This also marks the Lions last home game ahead of West Coast Conference play.

The Lions sparked an 11-game win streak, which included a 4-0 upset over No. 23 ranked Arizona State at the Judi Garman Classic in Fullerton, Calif.. They currently hold a team batting average of .295, with 257 hits, 153 RBIs, 176 runs scored, and 23 total home runs.

In the previous double header with the South Dakota Jackrabbits, the Lions fell short, losing both matches, one in extra innings. In fact, history took place in the second game as it marked the first home softball night game in school history.

Georgia Blair, a transfer from Central Florida, has really stepped up for the Lions as a leader on the team with five home runs and second at the plate with a .342 avg. Blair recently earned WCC Player of the Week as she's also top three on the team in total hits.

The Lions are a super talented team, as the names mention are just some of the leaders on this dynamic action-packed roster.

Allysa Daniell is another standout player, who currently leads the team with a .345 avg. Sydney Poole, the lead off right fielder, has also been a huge part of the Lions success, leading the team with 28 runs scored and a .327 avg. with over 100 at bats.

Veterans such as Andrea Gonzalez, Megan Dedrick, Peyton Angulo and Val Pero have also been super consistent for this exciting LMU team. You even see flashes of great plays from Freshmen Jasmine Sofowora, Savannah Hooks and Jessica Hubbard, to show what the future holds for the Lions.

The Lions will face the Cal Baptist Lancers, an 18-15 team with a notable win over No. 24 ranked BYU. The last meeting between the Lions and the Lancers was on Mar. 31, 2021, as LMU took the victory, 3-0.
