Box Score LOS ANGELES– The Loyola Marymount University softball team (18-10) picked up their ninth straight victory against the Columbia Lions, 9-1, to tie for eighth most consecutive wins in program history.
The Lions caught fire right away, as
Georgia Blair would hit a sacrifice fly out to center field, allowing
Sydney Poole to score the Lions first run in the bottom of the first inning.
In the same inning,
Arianna Jaurequi hit a sacrifice bunt to the pitcher, bringing in
Andrea Gonzalez to make the score, 2-0.
The Columbia Lions were able to respond in the top of the second inning, scoring off an RBI double to right center field.
In the bottom of the second inning, LMU bounced back with score, 2-1, as
Andrea Gonzalez hit a 2 RBI single to the shortstop, increasing the lead for the Lions.
Later in the same inning, Jaurequi would hit her 3rd RBI of the game, allowing
Morgan DeBord and Gonzalez to score off her 2 RBI single to right center field to make the score, 6-1.
Sydney Poole would then hit an RBI double to right centerfield, increasing the lead again for LMU.
In the bottom of the sixth inning,
Jasmine Sofowora drove a game winning double to center field, bringing in DeBord and Jaurequi to apply the 8 run mercy rule in six innings.
The Lions finished the game with eleven total hits to the Columbia Lions, eight hits.
Arianna Jaurequi went 3 for 3 at the plate, compiling 3 RBIs while scoring one run.
Andrea Gonzalez also went 3 for 3 at the plate, nailing one RBI while scoring two runs for the Lions.
Georgia Blair finished 2 for 4 at the plate, which included a double.
Paulina Johnson moves to 4-2, pitching 4.0 innings while allowing four hits and no runs.
Savannah Hooks got the start today, pitching 2.0 innings as she allowed four hits and no runs.
