Box Score WESTWOOD– The Loyola Marymount University softball team (15-10) defeated the Penn Quakers, 6-0, in the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament at Easton Stadium on UCLA's campus.
The Lions got off to a smoking start on defense only allowing one hit in the first three innings.
In the bottom of the second inning,
Georgia Blair hit an RBI double, which bounced off the center field wall, to give the Lions their first run of the game.
In the same inning,
Megan Dedrick hit a line drive single down left field line, allowing Blair to score the second run to give the Lions a 2-0 lead over the Quakers.
The Quakers were not able to get a run across the plate, as they were able to get a few hits in the top of the fourth inning.
In the bottom of the third inning,
Morgan DeBord would score on a fielding error to increase the Lions lead.
Arianna Jaurequi would force a sacrifice bunt to bring in DeBord who got on base off a single to right center field. Blair would then bomb a 2 RBI home run over the left field wall to give the Lions a 6-0 lead.
The Lions would hold the to no runs in the entire game and only three hits to improve to 16-10 on the season.
The Lions finished the game with eight total hits to the Quakers, three hits.
Georgia Blair finished 2-3 at the plate, scoring two runs, collecting 3 RBIs, and recording her third home run this season.
Morgan DeBord also went 2-3 on the night while scoring two runs.
Jenna Perez moves to 6-3, pitching 5.0 innings while allowing two hits and no runs, producing eight strikeouts.
Savannah Hooks got the start today, allowing only one hit and no runs, while compiling four strikeouts.
The Lions will return home to Smith Field for a double header with CSU Bakersfield on Sunday, Mar. 13 with the first pitch to take place at 11:30 am. PST.
