Box Score SPOKANE -- The Loyola Marymount University women's basketball team completed its final match of the regular season on Saturday, as the team took a loss to the Gonzaga Bulldogs, 83-62.
The Lions started off slow in the first quarter, fighting to gain momentum at McCarthy Athletic Center on Saturday.
Ariel Johnson was able to score a key bucket to keep the Lions afloat, as they fell behind the Bulldogs in the first quarter, 25-8.
The Lions were able to gain energy in the second quarter, hitting four threes in the quarter, finishing 57% from the perimeter. LMU had an unusual tough time on the boards in the first half, combining for 12 total rebounds in the half.
The Lions came into the third quarter down 49-24, willing to decrease the deficit with a fight.
Alexis Mark was able to get the ball in the basket several times, going four for four from the field, scoring 10 points, while grabbing three bounds in the third quarter.
Gonzaga continued its momentum, as they were able to hold the Lions to a score drought for two minutes.
The fourth quarter started with the Lions down by 20, 62-42. Johnson was able to keep things moving for the Lions scoring two straight baskets, which included a three-point play.
Mark scored 19 points in the second half alone, as she went 8-8 from the field.
Alexis Mark led the game with 21 points, five rebounds, and two steals.
Jasmine Jones finished with 15 points shooting 66.7% from the field, and two rebounds, while
Ariel Johnson finished the game with nine points, five rebounds, and five assist.
The Lions finished the 2021-22 season 4-13 in the conference, and 9-18 overall.
The Lions will head to Las Vegas next week for the WCC Championships at Orleans Arena.
