Box Score LOS ANGELES – Loyola Marymount women's basketball team took a tight loss to the San Francisco Dons for the final home game at Gersten this season, 67-72.
The Lions got off to a solid start in the first quarter on Senior Night at Gersten Pavilion.
Alexis Mark, Khari Clark, and
Jasmine Jones were the kick starters for the Lions. Clark was able to go two for two in the first quarter in the paint, while Mark was also able to two for three from the field with 3 rebounds.
Jones also hit some very difficult shots for the Lions in the first quarter as they were behind by six at the end of the quarter, 16-22.
Headed into the second quarter, it was all Jasmines Jones on her final home game at Gersten. She went 3-4 from the field, scoring nine points in the second quarter alone. She finished the first half with 13 points.
Mark continued her excellent rebound performance this season as she grabbed six boards in the first half, which three of those were offensive rebounds.
Nicole Rodriquez hit a clutch three-point buzzer beater to close the lead to just four points at the half.
With the score, 37-41, at halftime, the Lions were determined to come back on the Dons.
Ariel Johnson went 3-4 in the third quarter early in the first five minutes, helping them to keep the Lions within four points of a lead.
Jones and Mark also continued to show fight for the Lions grabbing rebounds and playing intense defense. The Lions took five shots from the perimeter that did not fall, which played a key part in their deficit.
The Lions collectively grabbed 11 boards in the third quarter and scored 13 total points.
The fourth quarter was amazing at Gersten, as the Lions make a huge effort to take the lead against the Dons.
Cassandra Gordon hit a clutch three-point dagger with five minutes remaining to cut the lead down to two points, 59-61.
The Lions were not able to take advantage of the shifting momentum, as they shot under 50% in the fourth quarter.
Mark finished the game with another double-double, producing 15 points and 10 rebounds. Jones finished her final home game with 18 points and 3 rebounds.
Ariel Johnson also finished with 15 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists.
The Lions are now 4-12 in the conference, and 9-17 overall.
The Lions will travel to Spokane, Wash. To face the Gonzaga Bulldogs for the final regular season contest on Friday, Feb 26. The conference game can be seen on the WCC Network, with tip-off from McCarthy Athletic Center set for 2 pm.
