Lions Back and Forth Duel Ends In A Tie

LOS ANGELES, CA – The Loyola Marymount University Lions (0-2-1, 0-0 WCC) battled back and forth in their series finale against the University of Utah and ended the game in a 9-9 tie on Sunday afternoon at Page Stadium. The Lions and Utes had a travel curfew in place which didn't allow for the game to continue to decide a winner.

The Lions fell behind early but seized the lead in the home half of the third with four runs courtesy of a Cole Roberts double, a Sam Biller triple, and a seeing eyed single from Dylan Dennis

The Utes tied the game in the top of the fourth and then added to their lead in the fifth but the Lions came roaring back in the sixth with a five run rally.

Matthew Piotrowski stepped up to the plate with a pair of Lions on and hit his first home run of the season tying the game at seven. With the game tied Diego Baqueiro sent a single past the shortstop and scored two more pushing the Lions ahead 9-7.

LMU couldn't hold onto the lead in the top of the seventh with the Utes brining in a pair knotting the game at nine each.

The Lions got out of a jam in the top of the tenth with the bases loaded with one out when Baqueiro snagged a rocket to first, stepped on the bag and got the runner out at second for an inning ending double play.

LMU loaded the bases in the bottom half of the tenth but a strikeout ended the rally and the game with both sides tied at nine.

The Lions return to Page Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. to continue their 11-game homestand when the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos pay a visit.
