Lions Look To Make A Statement in WCC This Week

Los Angeles, Calif.- The LMU Women's Basketball team (8-15, 3-10) has lost the last three West Coast Conference matches but look forward to make a statement to close out the season.  

With two weeks remaining before the West Coast Conference Tournament, the Lions are looking to capitalize off their strengths and as they look to upset No. 20 ranked BYU Cougars and sweep the conference series with the Pacific Tigers this week.
 
As the Lions will first travel to Provo, Utah, it will be interesting to see out the face adversity at Marriott Center on Thursday, Feb 17.

Ariel Johnson will continue to lead to pack for the Lions, as she has reached multiple milestones in the past two weeks. Not only did she score her 1,000th career point on Saturday vs. Santa Clara, but she also reached a season high 30 points while hosting Saint Mary's.
 
Johnson has been destroying teams in the fourth quarter alone and gets to the free throw line often to boost the Lions offensive efforts.  

Alexis Mark has been a monster when it comes to rebounds, averaging 11.8 rebounds per game in the last four games and 7.1 rebounds per game on the season. She has also contributed in various other areas, compiling points, steals and assist.
 
The Lions will look to make a statement with a conference wins this week, in preparation for the WCC Tournament slated to start March 3, 2022.

Tip-off for game 1 at BYU will be on Thursday, Feb 17. at 10:00 AM Pacific Time. The game can be streamed on BYU TV and live stats can be found at the link here.
 
Game 2 will be hosted at Gersten Pavilion on Saturday, Feb 19. at 2:00 PM Pacific Time. The game will be streamed on the WCC Network and live stats can be found at the link here.

The Lions are averaging 58.5 points per game, shooting just above 40% from the field, while grabbing 33.9 rebounds per game on the season.

The Cougars are currently on a three-game winning streak after being stunned by Portland, a team the Lions were able to upset a few weeks ago. They are currently ranked No.1 in the West Coast Conference after defeating Gonzaga on Feb. 5. Meanwhile, the Pacific Tigers are coming off a win over Portland, 79-74, and will face Pepperdine and San Diego before traveling to Gersten Pavilion on Saturday.


It will be the second matchups between the Lions and both opponents, as they are searching for wins four and five, and momentum headed into the conference tournament.
