Box Score 2 LOS ANGELES, CALIF. – The Loyola Marymount University softball team (0-4) defeated Mississippi State University Bulldogs, 5-3, while also dismantling the Nevada Wolfpack, 10-2.
The Lions came out strong in their first game of the day against the Mississippi State Bulldogs, a team they loss to, 2-4, on Friday at the Mark Campbell Invitational.
Val Pero bombed a double to left field, scoring an RBI as
Sydney Poole put on the jets to give the Lions the 1-0 lead in the first inning.
The Bulldogs did respond by scoring a runner from third base off a wild pitch. However, the Lions energy was unmatched in the early morning match up at Smith Field.
In the bottom of the third inning,
Alyssa Daniell hit a homerun to right field, giving the Lions a 2-1 lead over the Bulldogs.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Lions took over the game as
Andrea Gonzalez hit a double to right field, as
Morgan DeBord was able to score.
Later in the batting line-up
Peyton Angulo hit a home run to right field, making it four RBIs on the day.
The Bulldogs did bounce back in the bottom of the seventh, hitting a home run to left field while bringing in an RBI, cutting the lead to 5-3.
The Lions were able to close out the game, allowing only one run, as they defeated the bulldogs, 5-1. The Lions performed amazingly on offense with five runs, five RBIs, and two homeruns.
Jenna Perez is now 1-0, as she pitched 7.0 innings, allowing six hits and three runs, while netting 11 strikeouts to seal the deal for the Lions.
Game 2 for the Lions was even more of a success has the Lions were able to demolish the Nevada Wolfpack, score.
The Lions started the bottom of the first inning excellent as
Val Pero hit a double down left field line, as
Sierra Marshall was able to score, giving the Lions the 1-0 lead.
A couple bats later,
Georgia Blair brough in two RBIs of a single she darted through shortstop and third base, as the Lions took an early advantage, 3-0.
Alyssa Daniell, hit a single to bring in two RBIs to close out the first inning, as the Lions took a 5-0 lead.
The Wolfpack were able to respond in the top of the 5
th inning, scoring off a pop fly out to right field making the score, 5-1.
In response,
Megan Dedrick was able to score off a wild pitch in the bottom of the six to return the lead back to five points.
Georgia Blair would then hit a ground single to bring in an RBI as the Lions pulled away from the Wolfpack, 7-1.
Wolfpack responded again hitting a double to center field, scoring an RBI as the lead was cut to, 7-2.
The Lions were too much for the Wolfpack, closing out the game with ease, as they were able to close out the game scoring two more RBIs to end the game.
Jessica Hubbard won today and is now 1-0 on the season. Alyssa Daniel went two for two while
Georgia Blair hit one for three, bringing in 2 RBIs.
The Lions finished with a total of seven hits and 10 runs.
Jessica Hubbard (1-0) allowed four hits and zero runs, while Paulina Johson allowed four hits and one run.
Logan Caymol finished the game for the Lions allowing two hits and 1 one run.
The Lions will Tucson, Ariz. as they will compete in the 2022 Hillenbrand Invitational Friday, Feb 18., to face #20 Kentucky and Long Beach State at 11:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. PST.
