Game Goes To The Wire, As Lions Take Tough Loss

Box Score LOS ANGELES, CALIF. – The Loyola Marymount Women's Basketball took a really tough loss against Santa Clara University Broncos, 61-62, at home on Saturday.

The Lions kept the Broncos on their toes early, as Khari Clark and Ariel Johnson both kick-started the offense in the first quarter, scoring four points apiece.
 
LMU's defense was able to hold the Broncos under 50% from the field with just 19 points after the first quarter.
 
The Lions were not able to carry their energy into the second quarter as they were held to just 9 points total, shooting 4-14 from the field.
 
Nicole Rodriquez hit a clutch three before the half, to help the Lions decrease the lead. Alexis Mark continued her amazing rebounding campaign, grabbing eight boards alone in the first half.

With the score, 24-33, headed in to the second half, the Lions were determined to get their offense going and they did just that.
 
Khari Clark got going early, scoring four points in the beginning of the second half.
 
The Broncos were held to just 14 points in the third quarter, to the Lions 19 points, which depleted the lead tremendously as the Lions went into the fourth quarter with the score, 41-47.
 
Clark and Johnson kept the Lions offense rolling. Johnson recorded nine points in the fourth quarter while also reaching a career milestone of 1,000 points.
 
Jasmine Jones also played big in the fourth quarter, hitting a clutch three-point dagger which gave her nine points in just the second half.
 
The Lions were able to take the lead with eight seconds left before fouling and forcing the Broncos to the line. They were able to capitalize off the two free throws which gave them the lead with four seconds left.
 
Unfortunately, the Lions were not able to score as Ariel Johnson's mid-range jumper rolled off the rim, as the Lions fell short by just one-point.

Johnson finished the game with 19 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists, while Alexis Mark finished with 5 points and 11 rebound. Khari Clark shot 75% from the field, scoring 12 points while grabbing 4 rebounds.  
 
The Lions are now 3-10 in the conference, and 8-15 overall.

The Lions will travel to Provo, Utah to face BYU on Thursday, Feb 17.  The conference game can be seen on the WCC Network, with tip-off set for 11 a.m. PST.
