LOS ANGELES, CALIF. – The Loyola Marymount University softball team (0-2) loss two tough matches today to #16 Oregon Ducks and UC San Diego Tritons.
The Lions first game today against the No. 16 ranked Oregon Ducks started off great as
Sydney Poole scored from third on a wild pitch, giving the Lions a 1-0 lead.
LMU was able to hold the ducks to zero runs through the first three innings. The Ducks were able to respond to the adversity hitting a 3 RBI homerun in the fourth inning and another solo homerun, taking the lead, 4-1.
The Lions were not able to bounce back from the 3-point deficit, as the Ducks were able to hold them off to finish the game.
Megan Dedrick and
Morgan DeBord both finished the game with two total hits, going 2-3 at the plate.
Paulina Johnson is now 0-1, as she pitched 2.0 innings, and allowed zero hits and no runs.
Logan Caymol pitched 1.2 innings, allowing five hits and four runs.
Jenna Perez pitched 3.1 innings, allowing one hit, no runs, producing four strikeouts.
Game 2 for the Lions was more intense as the aimed to fight back from the past three losses. UC San Diego Tritons were able to get a few runs early in the first two innings.
The Lions trailed by the third inning, 3-0, but would not give up. They were able to hold the tritons to zero points through the remaining of the game while fighting hard to come back.
In the bottom of the six inning,
Andrea Gonzalez was able to drive a single to center field driving in an RBI as
Madalie Gomez scored the Lions run.
Headed into the top of the seventh inning, the Lions were determined to come back as
Val Pero was able to hit a line-drive single to center field as
Megan Dedrick scored to bring the game to a one-point deficit, 3-2.
With a runner on third, Megan Debord hits a pop fly with two out to left field as the Tritons were able to get the third out to close the game.
Alyssa Daniell and
Georgia Blair both went 2-3 at the plate, while
Val Pero also performed well going 2-4 at the plate.
The Lions finished with a total of 10 hits and two runs.
Savannah Hooks (0-2) allowed five hits and two runs, while
Jessica Hubbard allowed two hits and no runs.
The Lions will host day 2 their annual LMU Softball Tournament at Smith Field as they will face Mississippi State and University of Nevada, tomorrow, Feb 13., 9:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. PST.
