Box Score IRVINE, CALIF. – The Loyola Marymount University softball team (0-1) was not able to get going against #1 Oklahoma Sooners in game 2 of the Mark Campbell Invitational Tournament losing, 5-0.
The Lions started off strong, holding the Sooners to just one hit and no runs in the first two innings.
Top of the third inning, the Lions begin to heat up behind the plate.
Andrea Gonzalez started the inning off with a single through center field.
Sierra Marshall would then hit a bomb to right-center field for a double.
However, the Sooners were able to bounce back with two hits which lead to them scoring a run to take a one-point lead.
Val Pero responded with a double to right-center field in hopes to help the Lions fight back but the Sooners were able to come back with a 3 RBI home run to increase the lead.
The Lions overall have a tough match with the No.1 ranked Oklahoma Sooners but showed tremendous effort throughout the tournament. They finished the game with five total hits, compared to the Sooners seven.
Morgan DeBord went 2-3 while
Andrea Gonzalez went 1-2 at the plate.
Paulina Johnson is now 0-1, as she pitched 2.0 innings, and allowed two hits and one run.
Jenna Perez pitched 4.0 innings, allowing five hits, four runs, but piled up four strikeouts.
The Lions will head home to host their annual LMU Softball Tournament at Smith Field as they will face #16 Oregon and UC San Diego, tomorrow, Feb 12., 11:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. PST.
