LOS ANGELES- The Loyola Marymount University softball team has been ranked No.2 in the 2022 WCC Softball Preseason Coaches' Poll for the second consecutive time under the director of Head Coach Tairia Flower. The Coaches Poll and Preseason All-WCC team were selected solely by a vote of the conference's six head coaches.

Andrea Gonzalez, Alyssa Daniell, Megan Dedrick, and Morgan DeBord have all been placed on the 2022 Preseason All-WCC Softball Team Position Players list. This is Gonzalez's second consecutive Preseason All-WCC honors as she enters her fifth year at LMU. Gonzalez, Daniell, and Dedrick received First Team All-WCC Softball honors for the 2021 season, while DeBord received Second Team All-WCC Softball honors.

Last season, Morgan DeBord led the team in batting average with .345 at the plate. Gonzalez was second on the team with a .297 batting average. Mega Dedrick also grabbed a WCC Player of the Week honors in the 2021 season.

Savannah Hooks, a freshman pitcher for the Lions, has also received preseason honors as she was named to the Top 75 Overall Freshman to Impact by D1 Softball.

The Lions were 22-21 overall in the 2021 season. They went 10-5 in West Coast Conference Play as they finished second in the conference.

The Lions will travel to Irvine, Calif. to compete in the Mark Campbell Invitational, as they play a double header against Mississippi State and Oklahoma.
The Lions will then return home as they host their annual LMU Tournament on Saturday, Feb.12 and Sunday, Feb 13.  They will face No. 16 ranked Oregon and UCSD on Saturday and will return on Sunday to face Mississippi State again and Nevada as well. The Lions will also face No.7 ranked Washington, No. 15 ranked Arizona, and No. 20 ranked Kentucky throughout the 2022 season.

WCC play begins on April 8th, as the Lions hit the road facing WCC Preseason No.1 ranked BYU. The Lions first WCC home game will follow on April 23rd as they take on the No. 6 WCC ranked team, Pacific at Smith Field.
