LOS ANGELES – Two Lions finished in double digits in Wednesday night's, 49-64 loss against UC Santa Barbara.
Two free throws by
Nicole Rodriguez put the Lions on the board, but it was the Gauchos who started the quarter hot. UCSB would go on an 8-0 run and lead LMU by 12. With a little over two minutes left a steal by
Alexis Mark ended with a made layup by
Amaya Oliver. The Lions would only trail the Gauchos by seven, 16-9.
Just like the first quarter, the Gauchos came out the gate hot going on a 7-0 run.
Ariel Johnson and Rodriguez were the only two players to score in this quarter for the Lions. Their efforts help put LMU closer to UCSB making the score, 33-19, at the half.
The Lions shot 20% from the field the first half going 5-25 from the field.
In the second half a layup by
Khari Clark started a run for the Lions. They only trailied the Gauchos by 10. Things started to go the Lions way when Mark hit a three pointer with 6:12 left on the clock. The Lions brought the deficiency to a single digit, 37-30. Both teams would go back and forth, but the Gauchos would extend their lead at the end of the third, 50-35,
In the fourth quarter LMU's first basket was made by Johnson at the under eight followed by a 3 pointer from
Destiny Samuel. Even though the Lions were down by 20 with 2:07 left they never gave up and fought until the end.
Johnson finished the game with 17 points while Rodriquez was right behind with 10.
The Lions next game with be Friday, Dec. 3, against Texas State in San Marcos, TX.
