LOS ANGELES – The LMU baseball team is excited to announce the upcoming schedule for the 2023 baseball season.Â
Â
The season opens at home in a three-game series with San Jose State. Opening night will be Feb. 17 at 6:00 p.m. (PT) at Page Stadium against the Spartans. Â
Â
The homestand continues with the first of a home-and-home with the Long Beach State Dirtbags. The first game will be played on Feb. 21 at 6:00 p.m. at home, followed by an away meeting on May 8 in Long Beach, Calif.Â
Â
The first of the two marquee nonconference series will be from Feb. 24 to Feb. 26 in Stillwater, Okla. The Lions will face the Oklahoma State Cowboys in a three-game series. The Cowboys are coming off a 2022 season in which they hosted a regional. They were one game away from a super-regional.Â
Â
A road test at UCLA and a home-and-home with UC Riverside follow before the other tantalizing road trip. The Lions head to Nashville, Tenn. to face off against the 2022 preseason No. 1 team, the Vanderbilt Commodores.Â
Â
The Commodores also were one game away from a super-regional in the 2022 postseason, falling to Oregon State in the Corvallis Regional Final.Â
Â
Both the Cowboys and the Commodores should be picked in the preseason top-25 and are big opportunities to pick up important wins.Â
Â
"Going on the road to Oklahoma State and Vanderbilt will be a great opportunity for our program," said head coach
Nathan Choate, "it will help prepare us for the highly competitive WCC schedule."Â
Â
A mid-March homestand that starts with a midweek matchup with UCSB precedes the WCC-opening series with BYU, in their final season as WCC members. That series will take place from March 16 to Match 18.Â
Â
The WCC home slate includes series with the aforementioned Cougars, Santa Clara (March 31 to April 2), Gonzaga (April 14 to April 16), San Diego (April 28 to April 30)Â and Pacific (May 18 to May 20). The Zags and Toreros played for the conference championship last season and both teams made the postseason.Â
Â
Other notable midweek games include a home affair with the Bruins on April 25 and kicking off senior weekend with a visit from the Trojans on May 16. All midweek home games will begin at 6:00 p.m. (PT)Â
Â
Thursday and Friday games will begin at 6:00 p.m. (PT), with most Saturday games beginning at 6:00 p.m. as well. Exceptions include March 18 against BYU and May 20 against Pacific.Â
Â
"This year's team returns a lot of key veterans. In addition, we have added a lot of quality depth on the mound," said Choate, "It is going to be an exciting season on the bluff."Â
Â
Season ticket renewals are available now. Â
Â
Season and regular season tickets will be available at a to be determined date.Â
