LOS ANGELES – LMU Men's Water Polo played a tight game on Saturday afternoon against the second-ranked UCLA Bruins. Despite it being just a one-goal difference late in the second half, UCLA won the game, 17-10.
David Carrasco scored three first quarter goals with the Lions trailing 1-0, 3-1, and 4-2. The Bruins took a 5-3 goal after the opening period with a final goal coming with two seconds on the clock.
Jonny Rimlinger cut the deficit in half with the first goal of the second quarter and did so again to make it a 6-5 game. After UCLA retook the two-goal advantage,
Richie Rimlinger scored with 2:56 on the clock to bring the score to 7-6. UCLA scored the next two goals to take a 9-6 lead at halftime.
Carrasco scored a pair of third quarter goals to bring his total to five on the day. The Bruins added three of their own in the period to lead 12-8.
The senior pair of
Joseph Cavazos and
Jonny Rimlinger closed out the game with fourth quarter goals.
Stelios Dalmaras made seven saves and added two steals in the first 30-plus minutes before
Following the conclusion of the game, LMU recognized the three members of this year's senior class,
Jack Dunbar,
Joseph Cavazos, and
Jonny Rimlinger.
LMU will host Long Beach State next week in the final regular season game before hosting the WWPA Championships from Nov. 18-20.
