Final Shot Determines Outcome in #12 LMU and #5 UC Davis Conference Match

LOS ANGELES – With LMU and UC Davis both hunting this year's WWPA regular season title, Thursday afternoon's showdown turned into quite the significant game. The fifth-ranked Aggies edged out #12 LMU, 10-9, in a game that came down to the final shot with the Lions looking to tie the score.

UC Davis took an early 2-0 lead before David Carrasco put the Lions on the board at the 4:09 mark. The Aggies added a goal with a man advantage before the period ended to take a 3-1 lead after one.

Rafael Salonikios opened the second quarter with a goal to make it a one-goal game. After the Aggies got their goal back, Joseph Cavazos again cut the deficit in half. UC Davis scored the next two goals before Tyler Harvey found the back of the cage with 20 seconds remaining to make it a 6-4 game at intermission.

It took over five and a half minutes for either team to score in the third quarter before Carrasco make it a 6-5 game at the 2:23 mark. UC Davis ended the period with three unanswered goals to take a 9-5 lead.

The Aggies took their largest lead of the game to open the going up five with 6:26 remaining. Aden Mina started LMU's comeback bid on the ensuing possession by scoring on the 6-on-5. Over the final 2:36, Carrasco scored three unanswered goals to bring the Lions within one, 10-9. LMU earned the necessary stop of the defensive side of the ball to get one final look at tying the game. With the clock expiring and LMU on the powerplay, goalkeeper Stelios Dalmaras fired a shot off the post to end the game.

Dalmaras made seven saves in his 32 minutes in the cage, and added an assist and steal.

The Lions will host second-ranked UCLA Saturday at home.
