TUCSON, AZ – The Lions took a tough loss, 87-51, in Friday night's match against the Arizona Wildcats.
In the beginning of the first quarter, the Lions were first to get on the board with a good jumper from
Ariel Johnson. With four minutes left the in the quarter, LMU lead Arizona by one. Despite being down at the end of this quarter, the Lions shot 54% from the field.
The Wildcats went on multiple streaks in the second quarter extending their lead, but the Lions answered back with a 3-0 streak of their own.
Khari Clark went 2-3 in this quarter and got her a block to add to the stat line.
The Lions did struggle with rebounding this quarter. The Wildcats had 11 second chance points compared to the Lions two.
At halftime the Lions were down, 47-25, turning the ball over a total of 11 times.
It was a rocky start for the Lions in the start of the second half. Arizona went on 6-0 run, but LMU didn't get their first basket until halfway through the quarter. A layup by
Destiny Samuel finally put the Lions on the board in the third.
Even though the Lions were down for 30, they played this quarter with a lot of heart.
In the fourth quarter,
Alexis Mark chipped in seven points and ended up leading the Lions with 15 points this game. The Lions never gave up and fought until the end. With 28 seconds left, Amya Oliver made a layup putting the Lions two points closer to the Wildcats, 87-51.
The Lions next game will be Nov. 25 against California during the LMU Thanksgiving Classic.
