LOS ANGELES – The LMU men's tennis team closed out the LMU Invite with a victory over UC Irvine in the final singles match of the weekend. The Lions hosted UC Irvine, Utah and Cal Poly in a three-day event at the LMU Tennis Center.  

 

Friday saw the Lions defeat Utah in doubles 2-1. They faced the Utes again to the tune of a 6-0 sweep on Saturday morning.

Also Friday, the Lions opened against Cal Poly with a 6-0 sweep in singles. On Sunday they swept the Mustangs in doubles as well.

The Lions continued their success with wins against UC Irvine in singles on Sunday afternoon and doubles on Saturday afternoon. In singles, LMU prevailed 4-2. In doubles, the score was 3-0.

Smiej impressed with three come-from-behind victories, showcasing a gritty playing style that really wears opponents down.  

 

Smiej, Pantino, Otico and Gonzalez combined to go undefeated in singles.  

 

To only drop two points for the weekend is an impressive way to end the fall season for the Lions. Their next contest will be in the spring when the team calendar begins.
