Lions Send Krumpe Off With a Victory

LOS ANGELES – Noel Caliskan and CJ Neville scored in their LMU finales and Anthony Wilson netted his first collegiate goal, and the Lions men's soccer team defeated the visiting Gonzaga Bulldogs 3-0 on Saturday night in Los Angeles.

Neville opened the scoring in the 22nd minute. Caliskan fed the ball through the middle of the penalty area to the feet of Neville. Neville flicked the ball over the defender and toe poked the ball in for the opener.

Wilson found the net at the end of the half to double the lead. After Caliskan found Marco Byers-Mora at the top of the danger area, Wilson ghosted in at the back post where he tapped in on the feed from Byers-Mora.

In the second half, Caliskan slotted home a penalty to mark the final tally.

The Lions played a complete game to close out the season. LMU recorded 25 shots with 11 on target and won nine corners.

Prior to the match, the Lions seniors were honored. Derek Goodman, Leo Zulli, Corbin Mercado, Caliskan, Mitchell Wilson, Neville, Alex Liu, Dylan Shockey, and Adam Davie all played in their final collegiate games.

Also in his final game at LMU was head coach Paul Krumpe. Krumpe will finish up as the winningest coach in LMU history with an even 200 victories. He has spent the better part of 25 years on the bluff and made eight NCAA Tournament appearances, produced 5 All-Americans, and was named WCC Coach of the Year three times.

The Lions finish up the season 9-6-3 with a 3-3-1 record in conference play. It was good enough for a 4th place finish in the WCC in head coach Kyle Schmid's first season at the helm.
