SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Saturday's non-conference matchup featured the 10
th-ranked LMU Lions and the eighth-ranked UC Santa Barbara Gauchos. The higher seeded UCSB took the game, 9-6, in their home pool.
The two teams played a tight first quarter with neither team scoring in the opening eight minutes.
UC Santa Barbara then scored three goals in the first minute and a half of the second period.
David Carrasco put LMU's first goal of the day with an even-strength goal at the 2:37 mark. The Gauchos added one more before the intermission to carry a 4-1 lead into the halftime break.
The deficit grew to 7-1 for the Lions before
Rafael Salonikios added LMU's second goal of the day at the 1:13 mark of the third quarter.
Bruno Salonikios scored the first goal of the final period as
Aden Mina found him for the goal. UCSB responded with a goal on their ensuing possession. Carrasco scored his second goal of the game just before the halfway point of the fourth quarter. After the Gauchos scored at the 3:11 mark LMU cut it to a three-goal game with the final two goals of the day with Carrasco scoring his third and
Kade Margain beating the goalkeeper with 32 seconds on the clock.
Stelios Dalmaras again recorded double-digit saves with his 13 on Saturday.
The Lions will remain on the road with a game at Air Force on Oct. 15 to resume WWPA action.
