Box Score SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The LMU men's soccer team drew away at Santa Clara on Saturday night. A first half goal from Marco Byers-Mora was canceled out in the 80
th minute.
The Lions outshot the Broncos 17 to 5 and were unlucky to score in a multitude of opportunities.
Byers-Mora found the back of the net as the first half clock was counting down. Christian Ortiz found some space on the right wing and dribbled toward the end line before sending in a low cross. Byers-Mora reversed field and found some space to tap in at the near post to open the scoring and record his third goal of the season.
After Santa Clara tied things up in the 80th minute, the Lions ramped up the pressure. They had three really good chances.
First up, Noel Caliskan sprinted toward the end line and played a delightful ball across the face of goal. Anthony Wilson was in a slide and could not put the ball in at the back post.
The next opportunity was off the boot of Gianluca Arcangeli. Wilson played an outside of the foot pass right into the path of Arcangeli who blasted a first-time shot off the crossbar.
The final chance came off a set-piece opportunity. Corbin Mercado found himself alone at the back post but could not keep his shot down.
The Lions have a pair of matches left, facing off against St. Mary's on November 7 before finishing the season at home against Gonzaga on November 12.
