SPOKANE, Wash. - The LMU women's soccer team fell to Gonzaga 3-0 on Wednesday night at Luger Field in Spokane, Wash.
The Bulldogs scored in the third minute of the match to put the Lions into an early deficit.
That would be the difference at the half, as the Lions clamped down defensively and rode out the half.
Freshman striker Amanda Perez got in a shot right before the end of the half, but it was saved by the opposing goalkeeper.
Madison Thomas was brought on in the second half, looking to recreate some magic she had from when she scored against Saint Mary's.
The lead would double to the Zags in the 61st minute.
Four minutes later, Makayla Demelo found some space in the middle of the park and let loose a low, driven shot that was saved.
Madison Werner attempted a spectacular volley in the 77th minute. Janessa Groves won a free kick in the attacking half that was taken by
Alice Santen. Santen put in an inviting ball that Groves won in the box, falling to Werner who let rip right into the inviting arms of the Bulldogs goalkeeper.
The end of the second half saw the Lions pushing farther up field, getting caught out on a quick counter to mark the final tally.
LMU will be back at the friendly confines of Sullivan Field on Saturday night, taking on the San Francisco Dons at 7 p.m. (PT).
