LOS ANGELES – Amber McCorkle and Alice Santen scored goals to give the LMU women's soccer team a 2-0 victory over the visiting San Diego Toreros on Saturday night at Sullivan Field. 

 

McCorkle was feeling it early on, testing the opposing goalkeeper with a long-distance shot in the 23rd minute.  

 

Just five minutes later McCorkle found the back of the net after receiving a low cross in the box from Ellen Loncar on the wing. She slotted a right-footed shot into the near post and jumped up in celebration as she saw her shot beat the keeper. 

 

A pair of corners five minutes later led to another Lions goal. Gabriella Marchal delivered an inviting ball into the box which Santen headed in at the back post to double the lead with 33 minutes gone.  

 

Amanda Delgado recorded another clean sheet, her fifth of the season. She made a pair of incredible one-on-one saves. 

 

The first came in the 68th minute. USD sent a cross in that was halfway cleared by the Lions backline. It landed at the feet of a Toreros attacker, who drove a low shot that Delgado kicked away. 

 

The second big save came in the 73rd minute when a USD breakaway was broken up when Delgado toe poked the ball away for a fantastic save. 

 

The Lions pick up their first win in WCC play this season and will look to continue the trend next week against the Gonzaga Bulldogs in Spokane, Wash. That match will begin at 7 p.m. (PT) on October 19.
