Box Score Malibu, Calif. – The PCH Cup match-up was nothing short of amazing as LMU losses a tight one in West Coast Conference play against Pepperdine 55-61.
Lions started off slow in the first few minutes but ended the first quarter with a 12-0 scoring run to tie the game.
Alexis Mark,
Kimora Sykes, and
Khari Clark contributed to the Lions early come back.
Precise shooting and tough defense in the first, helped the Lions build success as a collective group.
Early in the second with 7:26 to go,
Jasmine Jones hit a three point shot to give the Lions a 21-18 lead. LMU's defense made huge plays in the first half, holding the Waves to just 27 points.
The Lions started the second half finding the basket multiple times, widening the margin by 5.
Nicole Rodriguez and
Ariel Johnson hit daggers from the outside, giving LMU an early edge over the Waves.
LMU charged into the fourth up 44-37, and continued their consistent play.
Khari Clark played phenomenal defense and grabbed valuable rebounds in the second half to keep things strong for LMU.
Nicole Rodriguez added to her shooting performance with another clutch three, giving the Lions their biggest margin of the game. Turnovers would start to shatter the Lions power, as the Waves begin capitalizing on minor mistakes.
After taking the lead, Waves senior guard Cheyenne Givens caused a turnover with 21 seconds remaining in the fourth that could have potentially given the Lions the opportunity to tie the game. She would then draw the foul, putting the Waves at the free throw line to give them a two-possession advantage to capture the win.
Nicole Rodriguez finished the game with 100% shooting percentage from the field and perimeter.
Kimora Sykes and
Khari Clark both ended with 10 points, shooting above 50% from the field.
The Lions will get set for another road trip on Thursday, with a conference matchup against Pacific. The conference game can be seen on the WCC Network, with tip-off from Stockton set for 7 p.m.
