Game Recap: Men's Water Polo |

Mitrovic Scores Five in #17 Loss to #11 Princeton

LOS ANGELES – LMU men's water polo (2-4) and Princeton (8-2) went back and forth for three quarters before a wild fourth quarter ended with the Tigers holding onto a 11-10 win.
 
Blazo Mitrovic tied the game at 1-1 in the first with his even strength goal at the 5:43 mark of the first. After Princeton tied the game, Mitrovic again scored the tying goal with two minutes remaining in the opening period. The Lions took a first lead with Joseph Cavazos scoring on the man advantage to push LMU ahead, 3-2 before the end of the first half expired.
 
The Tigers scored to tie the game less than a minute into the second quarter. Augie Renezeder broke the tie with 4:28 on the clock. After Princeton got one back, Mitrovic scored his third of the day to give the Lions a halftime lead, 5-4.
 
Princeton scored again a minute and a half into the third quarter to tie the game at 5-all. The score remained the same until Mitrovic converted a penalty shot at the 1:55 mark of the period to push the Lions back on top. The two teams continued to trade goals and find a response as Princeton tied it with 44 seconds remaining, Mitrovic pushed LMU back on top with 23 seconds on the clock, and the Tigers tying the score with five seconds left.
 
The first three goals of the final quarter went to Princeton to push the game to larger than a one-goal difference all day. Jonny Rimlinger cut it back to a two-goal game with 5:09 to play in the quarter. Princeton made it a three-goal game with 4:38 remaining, before Rimlinger scored back-to-back goals to cut it to a single goal game, 11-10 with 3:40 to play. The Lions were unable to score a tying goal and the game ended with LMU behind by a score.
 
The Lions will next play a midweek game at UC San Diego on Wednesday night.
