LMU Takes Series in High-Scoring Sunday Finale

LOS ANGELES – In Sunday's series finale, 18 total runs crossed the plate as Santa Clara (13-25, 6-15 WCC) won their first game of the weekend, 11-7. The Lions (16-26, 9-12 WCC) take the series after winning games on Friday and Saturday nights.

LMU jumped ahead first, as Julian Bury reached on an error and Alex Cargin walked in LMU's bottom half of the opening inning. Following a balk to move each baserunner forward 90 feet, Diego Baqueiro drove home both runs with a deep triple to right center.

The Lions went to the bullpen after a scoreless opening inning by Alex Burge. Santa Clara cut into their deficit with a sacrifice fly in the top of the second, before adding five runs in the third to take the lead.

The Lions strung together three consecutive two-out singles in the bottom half of the third as Tommy Delgado brought in Baqueiro to score, making it a 6-3 game. LMU added a pair of runs an inning later as Bury singled home Lambeau and Roberts to bring LMU within one after four innings of play.

The Broncos added four more runs in the top of the sixth, and a solo shot in the top of the seventh to build their largest lead of the game, 11-5.

Alex Lambeau singled with two outs in the seventh to give one back to the Lions, scoring Dylan Dennis from second.

The Lions added a seventh run in the bottom of the ninth as Matthew Piotrowski cleared the Monster in left field.
