Lions Host Team USA in Once-in-a-Lifetime Opportunity

LOS ANGELES –The Loyola Marymount University softball team took part in a once in a lifetime opportunity on Monday, as head coach Tairia Flowers welcomed Team USA to Smith Field on its "Stand By Her" tour, to play the Lions in an exhibition. Flowers was able to be on the field with both of her teams, as she is one of Team USA's coaches.

"We are glad we could take advantage of the training that Team USA is doing," said Flowers.  "It was a great support opportunity for our team and for Team USA as they prepare for gold."

LMU's first four-time First Team All-PCSC selection in school history, Sam Fischer, surprised the Lions and threw out the first pitch. After graduating from LMU, Fischer made the 2012 USA Softball USA Women's National Team.

After a few innings of an all-around effort from the Lions, the teams spiced things up, as Team USA sent Keilani Ricketts and Haylie Wagner to pitch for the Lions. Despite the Lions 9-1 loss, LMU was able to play an Olympic Team for the first time in program history.

The Lions will conclude their season this weekend, as the team will take on Saint Mary's in a three-game series at Smith Field starting on Friday.
