Lions Kick Off Conference Play At Santa Clara

LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University softball team will kick off West Coast Conference play on the road this week, as the team will head north to play Santa Clara in a three-game series. 
 
The Lions most recently played a double-header exhibition against Team Mexico, where the Lions battled against the National Team, making several clutch plays. 
 
Prior to taking on Team Mexico at home, the Lions swept Cal Baptist in a two-game series, where the Lions shut out CBU 7-0 and 3-0. 
 
The Lions are led by pitcher Marina Vitalich, who is No. 4 in the WCC in earned run average with, 2.47. Taylor Keinath is No. 4 in the conference in stolen bases with eight on the season. 
 
LMU heads into Saturday's games fourth in the conference with a 12-16 record. Santa Clara is sixth in the conference with a 3-10 record. 
 
The Broncos are on a four-game losing streak, with their two most recent losses against Fresno State. 
 
Last season, LMU did not meet with the Broncos, as the season was canceled. In 2019, LMU went 2-1 against SCU on the road. 
 
The teams will take the field at noon on Saturday for the first game, with the second 30 minutes after game one ends. The Lions and Broncos will be back at it on Sunday at noon for game three.
