LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University softball team dropped its first game of its three-game series against BYU with a 5-2 loss on Friday at Smith Field.
The Lions started off strong, as
Morgan DeBord got on base, and then scored off of a ground out from
Peyton Angulo to take a 1-0 lead. LMU then added another run to the board in the bottom of the third when
Allisha Martinez scored after a single from
Andrea Gonzalez.
The Cougars then answered back in the top of the fourth win a run, and then tied it up in the top of the fifth with another run. BYU then took the lead in the top of the sixth with two runs, and then added another in the top of the seventh.
The Lions had six total hits, compares to BYU's five. Gonzalez went 2-4 at the plate.
Marina Vitalich pitched 7.0 innings, allowed five hits and five runs, but had eight strikeouts.
The Lions will be back in action on Saturday for a double header against the Cougars.
