LOS ANGELES – The No. 10 Loyola Marymount University Lions (5-0-1, 4-0-1 WCC) will host the University of San Francisco Dons in their last home game of the 2021 season and final match at Sullivan Field for decorated senior defender
Gerardo Lopez.
LMU continues to roll in 2021 and will look for their second straight undefeated home season in West Coast Conference play as they won all three of their conference matches last year at Sullivan.
Lopez entered the season as an All-WCC Preseason Team member and was named to the watch list for the MAC Hermann Trophy and his play during the year warranted both those honors. He and the rest of the Lions defense have produced five shutouts and he's been recognized by the conference as its defensive player of the week already this season. For all the defensive accolades he also is tied for second in goals scored when he netting the eventual game-winning goal against Gonzaga.
The Lions as a team continue to amplify their offensive pressure against opponents, resulting in an 8-1 advantage in goals scored in addition to outshooting teams 95-42 and putting shots on goal at a 42-10 margin.
In net, goalkeeper
Jacob Jackson continues to pile on the shutouts. He recorded his fifth last week against Pacific and third straight for the Lions. His goals against average of 0.161 is first in the conference and fourth in the country. He also leads the WCC in save percentage at 0.900 which is tenth best in the nation.
The match against the Dons will be streamed live with links to the broadcast available on the men's soccer schedule page at lmulions.com.
The Lions will close out the regular season next weekend in Moraga, California when they pay a visit to No. 20 Saint Mary's in a clash of unbeatens. The match between the Lions and Gaels is set for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff on Sunday, April 11th.
