Women’s Water Polo Closes Season With Strong Showing Against Pacific

LOS ANGELES – LMU women's water polo nearly completed a remarkable comeback on Saturday morning, pulling into one goal of conference-champion Pacific. The #18 Lions (3-5, 3-4 GCC) trailed by four goals in the second half and fought back before ultimately losing to #12 Pacific (9-5, 6-1 GCC), 8-7.

LMU opened the game with a goal by Risse Sanchez to open the scoring at the 3:32 mark of the first period. Pacific closed out the period with two goals to take the lead at the quarter break.

The Tigers built up a 4-1 lead in the second before Taylor Enright stopped the run and scored for the Lions. Pacific would carry a 5-2 lead into halftime.

After falling behind by four goals, Tara DeBrabander scored her first of the day. Pacific answered with one more in the third, before Melyssa Moore rattled one home to make it 7-4 after three.

Carolina Newton opened the final period with a goal to bring it to a 7-5 game. The Tigers scored with 5:12 to play, but the Lions would not give in. Taylor Enright scored less than a minute later and DeBrabander added her second with less than a minute to play.
