LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University Lions (11-19, 4-8 WCC) dropped the first contest of their eight-game road swing 12-2 against the UCLA Bruins on Tuesday night.
The matchup with the Bruins was the third in four scheduled meetings this season with the final game set to be played on Tuesday, May 11th
at Page Stadium.
The Lions fell behind early, surrendering a pair of runs in the home half of the first but came right back with two of their own in the top of the second.
Kenny Oyama continued his blistering 2021 campaign going 1-for-4 with two RBI and a double. He accounted for those two runs with his double, in the top of the second, to right scoring both
Will Grimm and
Alex Lambeau.
LMU put a runner in scoring position in the top of the third but a pair of strikeouts ended the frame and the Bruins put five on the board in the home half, putting the game out of reach.
The Lions
Diego Baqueiro singled in the fifth, extending his hitting streak to four games. Grimm started the game at first base for LMU and went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
The Lions return to West Coast Conference play this weekend when they head north to Oregon for a three-game series against the University of Portland Pilots starting on Friday, April 16th.
LMU will look for their fifth series win in six opportunities against the Pilots and back-to-back WCC series wins since taking two-of-three over San Diego last weekend.
