Box Score 2 RIVERSIDE, Calif., -- The Loyola Marymount University softball team swept Cal Baptist in its double-header Wednesday night, as the team shutout the Lancers 7-0 and then 3-0.
The Lions opened up the top of the first to an impressive start, as
Megan Dedrick hit a double to send
Taylor Keinath home. Up 1-0,
Allisha Martinez singled to send Dedrick home.
The teams went quietly until the Lions put another run on the board in the top of the fourth after
Andrea Gonzalez scored after
Alyssa Daniell reached first on a fielder's choice.
Up 3-0, the Lions added another run to the board after Daniell doubled to send
Kat Hummer home, who came in to pinch run for
Peyton Angulo.
The Lions closed out the top of the seventh with three more runs, starting with a run from Martinez after
Desiree Moreno hit a triple. A double from
Morgan DeBord sent Angulo and Moreno home. The Lions closed out the game with a 7-0 win.
LMU had 13 total hits, while the Lancers had three. DeBord went 3-4 at the plate, while Gonzalez, Martinez and Dedrick went 2-4.
Marina Vitalich picked up the win, as she allowed three hits and zero runs. She had seven strikeouts.
Mallory Eckroth pitched 0.1 innings, allowing no hits and no runs.
Up 1-0 on the day, the Lions kept their momentum, as they put two runs on the board in the top of the third, after Daniell homered while DeBord was on base.
The Lions added one more in the top of the sixth when Gonzalez scored off of
Madalie Gomez's single. The Lions closed out the game with a 3-0 win.
LMU had seven hits, while Cal Baptist had six. DeBord and Daniell both went 1-2 at the plate.
Alessandra Samperio pitched 5.0 innings and collected the win. She allowed four hits and zero runs.
Paulina Johnson pitched 0.0 innings, while Vitalich came in for the save after pitching 2.0 innings, and allowing no runs.
The Lions will be home at Smith Field on Friday to host team Mexico.
