Lions Fall to Huskies

SEATTLE – The Loyola Marymount University Lions (5-4, 0-0 WCC) offense stalled on Saturday night and couldn't dig themselves out of an early hole falling to the Washington Huskies 7-2 to even the series at one game each.

Runs and base runners were hard to come by early for the Lions but they managed to put together a bases loaded one out rally in the sixth. With the bags full LMU could only produce a single run and couldn't get closer to the Huskies.

Getting the nod for head coach Nathan Choate was Jimmy Galicia and put together four innings of work for the Lions. In his previous two starts he went at least six but couldn't get the same production tonight. Galicia did pick up six strikeouts on the night with each one catching the batter looking.

The Lions continued their fight against Washington loading the bases for the second straight inning in the visiting half of the seventh. Dylan Dennis started the rally with his one out double to left field and was followed by Cole Roberts and Kenny Oyama both getting on base.

With the bases loaded Julian Bury singled to right field scoring Dennis but the Lions rally stalled there. Tommy Delgado laced a shot but it went straight to the shortstop and resulted in the inning ending double play.

On the night LMU had five hits and two runs while the combination of Galicia, Adam Christopher, Logan Hurd, and Matt Voelker had 11 strikeouts.

LMU was held scoreless in the final two frames and will look to rebound tomorrow afternoon in the series finale against the Huskies. The Lions will go for their second straight series win with first pitch scheduled at 1:00 p.m.
