LOS ANGELES –The Loyola Marymount University softball team is set to compete in the Judi Garman Classic this week. The team will play in five games starting on Friday with a double-header against San Jose State, and then a double-header against Fresno State and will conclude the tournament against Cal State Fullerton on Sunday.
The Lions head into the Judi Garman Classic coming off of a stellar weekend against UC Riverside. The team went 3-0 against the Highlanders, including a 5-0 shutout, a 5-3 win and a 13-2 victory, which resulted in a run rule.
Marina Vitalch threw her second shutout of the season over the weekend and came in for the save in the Lions' 5-3 victory. The law student's impressive weekend earned her the West Coast Conference Pitcher of the Week, as she collected 11 total strikeouts.
Sophomore
Morgan DeBord has started in all 11 games for the Lions and has tallied up a .310 batting average, while
Desiree Moreno has a .303 batting average.
The Lions will kick off the Judi Garman Classic on Friday at 9:30 AM against San Jose State. Last season, the Lions beat the Spartans 4-3. San Jose State is 2-4 on the season. Their two wins were against conference opponent, Saint Mary's.
