LOS ANGELES – The Loyola Marymount University Lions (9-13, 2-4 WCC) lost their Sunday matinee against the Gonzaga Bulldogs 14-2 by falling behind early and not getting enough timely offense to fight their way back.
The Lions dug themselves into an early hole, giving up runs in five of the first six innings and couldn't get their offense to produce enough runs even though they had fourteen hits in the game.
The Lions won the series however by taking games on Friday and Saturday night for their third series win and first in West Coast Conference play.
LMU had opportunities for runs in five separate innings, breaking through in the ninth, but left twelve runners on base. The Lions started the game with singles by
Evan Leibl and
Julian Bury but the runners were stranded on base which was the case most of the afternoon for LMU.
Adam Christopher made his sixth appearance and first start for the Lions and wound up taking the loss. Christopher was the first of seven pitchers on the day that took the hill for LMU.
The Lions showed resolve in the bottom of the ninth with three hits and two runs but it wasn't enough to complete the series sweep.
LMU returns to Page for a midweek battle against the USC Trojans on Tuesday, March 30th. The Lions and Trojans opened the year against each other and will resume their battle with first pitch set for 6:00 p.m.
