EUGENE, Ore., -- The Loyola Marymount University softball team completed its double header against No. 3 Oregon on Friday in Eugene, Ore., falling to the Ducks in both games, 14-2, and 3-0.
The Lions opened up game one to a tough start, as the Ducks put a run on the board in the bottom of the first inning, two in the second, four in the third and then seven in the bottom of the fourth.
The Lions responded in the top of the fifth, as
Allisha Martinez singled center, and then advanced when
Desiree Moreno was walked.
Kat Hummer came in to pinch run for Moreno, and then advanced to second once
Peyton Angulo was hit by the pitch.
Amanda Treatch reached on a fielding error, which sent Martinez home. Hummer then scored when
Alyssa Daniell grounded out.
The Lions weren't able to put anymore runs on the board, closing out the first game after the fifth inning with a 14-2 loss.
The Lions had one hit, which came from Martinez. Moreno led in putouts with three.
Alessandra Samperio pitched 3.1 innings and picked up the loss, as she allowed six hits and five runs.
Mallory Eckroth pitched .02 innings, allowing four hits and six runs.
Brittany Steenbergen pitched 0.0 innings, and allowed four hits and three runs.
Down 1-0 on the day, the Lions had a stronger second game. The Lions did not have any hits or runs, but they only allowed the No. 3 Ducks to score three runs, with two in the first inning and one in the third.
Marina Vitalich pitched 6.0 innings, and allowed three hits and three runs.
The Lions will be back on the field on Friday to complete their three game series against the Ducks at noon.
