LOS ANGELES – The decision has been made to cancel Friday's women's soccer game between LMU and Santa Clara. The West Coast Conference has decided that the game will be marked as a forfeit in the official standings, due to LMU's limited roster entering the week due to injuries.
The NCAA rules require at least seven student-athletes to be available to start a contest. Entering the week, LMU has at least seven available players to compete, but would not be able to field a full starting eleven. None of the injuries on LMU's roster are related to COVID-19 cases or contact tracing.
"The health and well-being of our student-athletes are at the forefront of our decision-making," said Athletic Director
Craig Pintens. "We are disappointed that we will not be able to compete against Santa Clara, but we would rather forfeit than jeopardize the health of our students in a short-handed situation."
LMU attempted to reschedule the game but was unable to find a mutually agreeable date with Santa Clara for this spring.
