BERKELEY – The Loyola Marymount University Lions (7-7, 0-0 WCC) dropped their series to the California Bears on Sunday afternoon, falling behind early and not producing enough offense to mount a comeback resulting in a 7-1 defeat.
 
The Lions offense was quiet for most of the day but came alive in the top of the ninth with three hits and a run in the inning but it wasn't enough to split the series against Cal.
 
Matt McClure got the Sunday start for the Lions but wasn't able to recreate his other two outings and picked up his first loss on the year.
 
Holden Christian continues to shine for the Lions, he came on in relief of McClure to start the third and gave LMU four innings of one hit baseball to go along with four strikeouts.
 
LMU and Cal were in a scoreless tie heading into the bottom of the second and that's where things got away from the Lions. The Bears put up seven runs on seven hits and it was too much for the Lions to overcome the rest of the way.
 
The Lions return to the friendly confines of Page Stadium, where they haven't dropped a decision, and open up West Coast Conference play with BYU paying a visit for a three-game set. The Lions and Cougars will begin the series on Thursday, March 18 with first pitch set for 6:00 p.m.
