LOS ANGELES – After a two-week hiatus, the Loyola Marymount University volleyball team (4-6, WCC) will be back in action this weekend to host No. 18 University of San Diego in Gersten Pavilion on Friday and Saturday.
Due to the Lions' series against Santa Clara being postponed, the Lions have not played a match since February 22nd and 23
rd, where the team split against the Gonzaga Bulldogs, as LMU lost its first match 3-2, but then came back in the second match to win 3-1.
Rose Booth led the Lions in kills against Gonzaga, as she tallied up 39 total, while
Kari Geissberger had 38.
LMU is No. 3 in the conference in service aces, averaging 1.71 per set behind
Isabella Bareford, who is No. 3 in the conference with an average of .44 service aces per set.
Emmelyn Walters is No. 2 in the conference in attack percentage with a .361, while Geissbeger is No. 5 with 3.14.
The Lions are currently No. 6 in the WCC, while San Diego is first and has an undefeated 10-0 record on the season. The Toreros are also coming off of a two-week hiatus, as they last played University of San Francisco on February 24
th and 25. USD swept the Dons in the first meeting, 3-0, and then picked up a 3-1 win to conclude the series.
Last season, the Lions dropped both of their matches to the Toreros 1-3, trailing USD 44-39 all-time. USD has won the last 10 of 11 matches, with the Lions last win being in 2015.
First serve will be on Friday at 6:00 PM in Gersten Pavilion. The Lions will be back on the court on Saturday at 6:00 PM to conclude the series. The matches can be seen on WCC Networks.
