PROVO, Utah – Loyola Marymount University women's basketball player,
Chelsey Gipson set her season high against Brigham Young University on Saturday with 19 points in the Lions' 69-50 loss against the Cougars.
Gipson made the first basket of the game, but the Cougars responded and took the lead. The Lions closed out the first quarter down 19-14. The Cougars took their first double-digit lead of the game in the second quarter and closed out the half on top of the Lions 37-23.
The Cougars continued their momentum in the third, extending their lead to 22 points, to close out the quarter up 58-36. The Lions battled, but they weren't able to take the game back, closing out their road trip with a 69-50 loss.
Gipson led the team in points with 19 and in steals with four, while
Meghan Mandel and
Ariel Johnson both had eight points a piece.
Ciera Ellington led the team in rebounds with seven, while
Cassandra Gordon had six.
The Lions shot 25 percent from the field, 29 percent from behind the arch and 94 percent from the line, compared to BYU's 78 percent at the line. The Lions had 45 total rebounds, compared to the Cougars' 33. LMU had seven total steals and 20 total assists.
The Lions will be back in Gersten Pavilion on Monday to host University of San Diego, a game that was rescheduled from January.
