Box Score 2 RIVERSIDE, Calif., -- The Loyola Marymount University softball team had a dominating second day of play against. UC Riverside on Sunday, as the team won its first game 5-3, and the run ruled its second, 13-2, closing out the game after the fifth inning.
The Lions and the Highlanders opened up their first game to a slow start, as both teams went quietly until the Highlanders put three runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth. The Lions responded in the top of the sixth.
The bases were loaded with
Page Mindedahl,
Peyton Angulo and
Andrea Gonzalez when
Morgan DeBord was hit by the pitch, to send Mindedahl home.
Allisha Martinez was then hit by the pitch, sending Angulo home.
Down 3-2,
Taylor Keinath hit a single, sending Gonzalez home, and then a flyout sent DeBord home, followed by a single from
Amanda Treatch to send Martinez home. Up 5-3, both teams went quietly for the rest of the innings, giving the Lions a 3-2 win.
The Lions had nine total hits, compared to. UCR's 10. Keinath went 3-3 at the plate, while DeBord went 2-3.
Paulina Johnson pitched 4.8. innings, and allowed seven hits and two runs, while
Linnay Wilson got the win after pitching two innings, allowing two hits and two runs. Marina Vitalch came in for the save, pitching one inning and allowing one hit and no runs.
Up 1-0 on the day and 2-0 in the series, the Lions started their second game against the Highlanders.
The Lions made moves right away, as
Molly Grumbo first scored after a Treatch advanced on a passed ball. Treatch then scored after
Desiree Moreno singled.
The Lions then dominated the second inning, putting nine runs on the board, starting with a run from Keinath, Grumbo, Treatch,
Megan Dedrick and Moreno. Gonzalez and. Angulo scored after a double from DeBord.
DeBord and Treatch then added to the board, to leave the top of the second up 11-0. The. Highlanders scored two runs in the bottom of the second. Martinez hit a homerun to open up the fourth inning, and then Grumbo scored again, giving LMU a 13-2 lead to end the fourth.
The Highlanders were not able to score in the bottom of the fifth, resulting in a run rule, closing out the game.
Treatch went 2-2 at the plate, while Gonzalez went 2-3. The Lions had 12 total hits compared to the Highlander's five.
Treatch had three RBIs, while. Moreno and DeBord had two and Grumbo, Dedrick, Gonzalez and Martin all had one.
Alessandra Samperio pitched 5.0. innings, allowing five hits and two runs.
